Psssst... I'm Back (With A Vlog) To Finally tell You About My Adventures In Melbourne and Give You A Life Update - Get Ready For The Blog To Go From 0 To 100 Real Quick.
Well hello there... long time no speak. Firstly, I have to apologise for the radio silence over the past couple of weeks. Trust me, even the gym didn't get a visit for a while. But I am here to tell you why. No, there hasn't been some dramatic event or sad reason for my absence, in fact, quite the opposite. I have been the busiest little human I think I have ever been over the past month, which has been filled with ample amounts of fun, adventure and new beginnings, and I am here to tell you all about it, and what the next couple of months entails for the blog.
The last two weeks of October were an absolute whirlwind. I had my final shift at my first ever job, which I wrote about in my previous post, so I won't bore you with that again. I then finished classes for the year, and instead of having exams this semester, I was served four final essays. So the week in-between finishing classes and my old job was basically filled with non-stop essay writing. I am yet to decide if essays or exams are better, however I did hand those in and finish up a month earlier than my peers so I guess essays aren't so bad after all. Amongst the essay writing, I had the amazing opportunity to fly to Melbourne with Bupa Australia for the 2017 Bupa Blog Awards, and what an experience that was.
Despite the chilly 15 degree temperature drop from sunny Perth, my quick 48 hour stopover in Melbourne was my first 'blogger' travel event and man did I enjoy it. Accompanied by my lovely mum Meg, Melbourne truly dealt me some good cards. Filled with shopping, socialising, learning and of course, lots of eating and caffeine intake, I attended my first ever bloggers event. A networking workshop at the Bupa Head Office in the CBD followed by a cocktail awards evening taught me many things. Firstly, no one finds it rude if you are checking your socials at the table, in fact, it is encouraged, with a hashtag competition and selfie stick provided, however my lanky arm did just the trick. I learnt that turning up to an event by yourself is very daunting, especially when you go the wrong way three times in the building before finding the right door. But, I also learnt that it is one of the best things you can do.
By nature, I am quite an outgoing person, however, I usually find myself with at least one friend by my side, as a somewhat security blanket. The Blog Awards were my first real work/blog event, and they were the perfect way to soften the blow. I ended up having the most amazing time, filled with many new friends, contacts and fun. I met some of the biggest bloggers in the game, and learnt so many tips and tricks about how to really turn my dream into reality. Meeting people in the flesh who are doing exactly what they want with their lives, full time, I came to realise that my dream isn't impossible, in fact, it isn't even just out of reach. I already am living it, breathing it, despite it being in the infant stages. I'm on a rollercoaster that is only going up.
I also learnt that being by yourself, without your security blanket, is amazing for self growth and improvement. It forces you to step outside of your comfort zone and talk to new people, about new things. There isn't an option to default back to what you are used to, all you can do is put yourself out there, and I promise you'll be met with a positive response, especially if everyone is in the same boat. I didn't come home with a win from the awards in a trophy form, but I won in so many other ways. In fact, I almost forgot I was at an awards night because I was just having so much fun. Taking away priceless, inspiring advice from amazing people who have been in the game for not just a couple of months, but decades. So thank you Bupa for organising the amazing night, I had an absolute ball, if you can't already tell.
After an amazing couple of days, the fun didn't end after touching down in P-town. I started my brand new job at Sportsgirl, and I have been working non-stop since. I have never worked so much in my life, but I have also never enjoyed working so much. In fact, it almost doesn't feel like I am working at all half of the time, because I am doing what I enjoy - inspiring women and girls with fashion. But I finally have a day off, and with my schedule clearing up for the summer, I am back on track on the blog. Get ready for consistent, exciting new content, with summer fashion and lifestyle being one of my main focuses for the upcoming weeks and months. I can't wait to finally have a decent amount of time to dedicate to the blog, because it is what makes me truly happy.
