Welcome to winter (officially) fellow Southerners. In the lead up to this edition of ‘The Rack’, I have been gathering information and inspiration from a variety of different sources, to bring you the ultimate curated winter wardrobe. I have made countless lists, spent far too much time online shopping, and searched endlessly through street style blogs, magazines and reports on the recent Australian Fashion Week in May, to create the ultimate rack of timeless, effortless, quality pieces that will not only save you some $$, but will see you making less trips to your local shopping centre or online destination.
When creating this seasons rack, I had three main objectives or criteria for each piece;
1). It had to be timeless - I want every investment you make this winter to not just last you for the next couple of months, soon to be thrown deep into your closest where you bury your embarrassing, too-on-trend pieces from last seasons wardrobe. No, I wanted every piece on this list to be wearable for not just this season, not just for next season, but for many winters, autumns and even springs to come.
2) It had to be worth the purchase - sometimes, forking out a bit of extra moola for the right pair of boots is definitely worth it. By investing in quality items, you get more wear per pay, due to the longevity of the product, in terms of both the quality and style of the item. A cheap pair of overly on trend shoes might seem like the right choice at the time, but they will ultimately leave you out of pocket.
3) It had to be workable and wearable - to me, winter is less about statement pieces and more about a sophisticated ‘uniform’ as such, I tend to save these for warmer, more social seasons. For this reason, each piece selected for the rack had to be able to not just work on its own, but work harmoniously with what you already have from previous seasons. I don't ever see the point in paying good money for a beautiful piece that you can only wear once or twice with a specific pair of shoes. Every piece I have selected should be able to work day or night, in a casual or more dressy and smart style.
The overall feel of this collection should be quality over quantity. This will leave you making less fast fashion purchases, saving money, time, future embarrassment, and of course, the environment. By mixing new quality, timeless items with what you’ve already got, and with a few vintage purchases, you can look sleek, sophisticated and stylish at anytime, in any outfit.
On a more exciting note, this article is the first post that will work in conjunction with my new Youtube channel, Magenta Porter.
